Introduction

Engineering Library of Yamagata University provides a comprehensive range of collections covering specialized books, academic journals and reference materials etc. with educational study at university. It also provides network service for collecting academic information from in and outside like electrical library for students and faculty staff members.

The library plays a vital role in reviewing lecture more deeply and broadly for students and enhancing general culture and field work. We do hope that more and more students utilize the library in order to deepen routine study and enhance themselves.





How to use the Library and Registration

A library card or student's identification card will be necessary when entering the library and borrowing materials. A gate will be opened when you have your bar code of the student's ID read admission device. If you forget to bring your ID or Library card, please ask someone at the counter desk.
When you borrow books for the first time, present "Library user's Registration Form and Request for Library card" at the counter desk. In case there is no bar code in the student card, a library card will be issued.





How to look for books and periodicals

☆General Books

(1) Open stack collections
  Books are classified in NDC(Nippon Decimal Classification) order.
  If you confirm NDC of the theme and search for the shelving system,
  you will be able to find out many related books.
(2) How to search for the books in theoretical order

*1 OPAC stands for Online Public Access Catalog. You can find out where books and periodicals are located from OPAC in Library Homepage, making use of computer for search, which amounted to 50 PCs in Homepage. In case you are connected with Library Homepage, you will be able to search materials from external PCs.

*2 The card catalog,located on the first floor, is a listing of materials in the library before the entry of PCs. It provides title, author and classification.
If you do not know what to do, ask someone at the counter desk.


☆Academic journals
 With regard to academic journals which Yamagata University holds at laboratory
or Engineering Library, you can find them with OPAC.

※ The latest issue of academic journals stacked in the library are on new journals corner, 2F.

※ Concerning academic journals stacked in the laboratory, go to the laboratory
 and use through the appropriate journal administrator.

※ Academic journals in principle, should be read only in the library.
  Use copy service (charge) if necessary.

In-library use only

The following materials should be used in-library only.
Reference books(encyclopedia,dictionary,annual,ones with pictures.)
Academic journals(If you return books taking copies,we are happy to take out books. Apply for the counter desk.)


Reading in the library

☆Open-shelf reading books/academic journals
 Reading materials of any field in open-shelf reading room in the 1st. floor can be used freely. After use, please put the materials back in the same place where you found them. As for reading academic journals in the 2nd. & 3rd. floor, only graduate students and undergraduate research students are allowed to read them.

☆Library materials academic journals in the stack rooms.
 Graduate students and undergraduate research students can enter showing student's identification cards.




How to borrow and return books

☆Borrowing books

 Apply for the counter desk showing borrowed materials with student's identification cards.

☆Returning borrowed materials

 When returning books to the counter desk, tell "These are returned materials" and show them student's identification card. Please keep the deadline of the returning books.

☆Procedure to use the ABC Machine

 User can return books that have the bar code label using the ABC machine,
 for the Books of open stack collections on the first floor.

Reference Service

The reference service is offered to support studies, surveys, and researches. Users are encouraged to ask such questions as the location of materials, the use of reference materials, and information retrieval at the counter desk.


Inter-library loan(Copy Service)

Materials not held by this branch library can be borrowed from other university libraries. Fill in the duplicate copy or borrowing application form and apply at the counter of the library(only for university professors, staff and graduate students). If you want to use reference duplicated application form of Internet, please apply at the counter of the library(only for university professors).


Library books requested by students

The library will purchase the books upon request by students. Apply for the counter desk.

※ How to use CD-ROM changer
 Watching CD-ROM used CD-ROM is available at 10 PCs of 1F OC cirber for searching, two PCs of New Media Room, and 6 PCs, front row of Multi-Media Room.

※ How to use Information Consent
 You can bring notebook PCs (mobile PC or Mac) to open stack reading room and connect it with network through Information Consent installed at reading desk or wall. Something to prepare: (PC or Mac twist cable with LAN card) With regard to installation, please refer to "How to establish for connection.

※ How to use AV room
 When you use AV room, please apply for the counter desk.

※ How to use TV broadcast receiving facilities
 When you use TV broadcast receiving facilities, please ask the counter desk to borrow headphones.




Library outsiders (General people can also use it)

☆Application and registration
 * An outsider member should submit an ID card such as driver's license at the counter desk and make a necessary application.
 * In principle, those who are under university students cannot use the library.

☆Rules for the use of the library
 * They can read books, and borrow books.
 * In principle, they are not allowed to enter the stack room. If the user wishes to use the materials in the stack room, please apply for the counter desk.
 * The user can utilize copy service in charge (10 yen/sheet)
 * As for others, please follow the direction of library staff.

☆Other rules to be observed
 * User must keep quiet in the library. Whispering, talking over the cellular phone, and any actions that might disturb others are not permitted.
 * Materials should be handled with care to avoid any damege. Readers are expected to pay for lost or dameged materials.
 * Do not take books out of the library without permission. When materials are improperly taken out of the library, an electric signaling device,     kwhch is installed at exit gate, will make a buzzing sound.
 * Eating and drinking are not allowed. Smoking is not allowed in the library except for designated smoking area.
 * In respect to lost and found, consult with the counter desk.
 * Ignoring library rules or staff's instruction can cause the suspension of user's right of utilizing the library.
